Visited 2 most popular attractions in Kobe. Now you must be wondering whether we tasted authentic Kobe Beef? The answer is yes and no...

 

Alighted in front of Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya Station.

Crossed the road, and you'll see lots of shops...

and narrow alleyways under the Hankyu railway track.

 

McDonald's Beef Burger?! No, of course not!

Steak Land Teppanyaki (ステーキランド 神戸館).

Dipping sauces, pickled, salad.

We sat on different tables because I opted for Seafood, and hubby wanted to have beef.

  

First frying crunchy garlic flakes with butter.

 

The chef started to season the beef.

 

  

Teppanyaki-style... frying on top of teppan (鉄板 = iron plate).

 

Cutting and divided to everyone on the table.

 

Stir-fry Xiao Bai Cai (小白菜) and Bean Sprouts (豆芽).

Our table was the last one to be served by chef...

Wondering whether the chef went for prawning or served other table first :(

Waited like 30 minutes and the rest of the tables had finished their food!

Finally the chef brought all the ingredients and started to cook right in front of us.

Tada... our Seafood set meal: shrimps, scallops, noodles (yakisoba).

Hubby had finished his meal and came to attack my seafood meal! Hahaha... no lah, just joking. He's nice to help me deshell shrimps, so I shared half portion with him.

  

Ninja Dining NIN-JIN 【情熱ダイニング】opposite Steak Land.

 

When posing at the restaurant next to Steak Land, 

the guide from another team told us that there are a lot of restaurant 

sell Horse meat. Then he browsed the menu list and showed to us. OMG~!

 Convenience store selling snacks and cosmetics.

Another exit of Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya Station.

And another branch of Steak Land Teppanyaki Restaurant just opposite the station.

It's about 20m from here to Steak Land restaurant

we dine earlier.

[Kobe] - The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Museum

We also visited Kobe Earthquake Memorial Museum. Our guide told us this museum opened in 2002 to commemorate the tragic event and to educate visitors about earthquakes and disaster prevention.

 This museum is dedicated to showing visitors the effects of the 

Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that devastated Kobe city on 

January 1, 1995 at 5:46 am. 

It measured 6.9 on the moment magnitude scale and the tremors lasted for approximately 20 seconds. But this short 20 seconds claimed 6,434 lives!  ㅠㅠ

Earthquake-related items and records are displayed together with remarks 

 by contributors regarding their experience of the quake. 

Not only images, visitors can also watch the movie about Kobe's Earthquake. It's not real footage of Kobe's quake, but the scenes showed the impact and the aftermath disasters of the earthquake.

There are documentary program showing how communities and residents have worked for reconstruction, and 5 dioramas showing the road to recovery from the earthquake

 

It's wonderful experience to be guided by knowledgeable 

elderly volunteer. Not only he speaks fluent English, 

but he's so nice to show us around and explain

if we have questions.

He brought us to the experimental corner, then passionately explained and showed us the modeled apartment that constructed with Base Isolator underneath it and another just normal apartment. Then he switched on the device that created earthquake movement, normal apartment broke in pieces. You can see the structure with base isolator  moving back and forth, but it didn't collapse. Awesome engineering!

Sorry, so technical, I don't know how to describe it to you... too bad, I accidentally deleted video files of Japan trip. Else, I can post the video on Youtube.

[Kobe] - Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum

After Osaka Castle, we proceed to Kobe which is famous for top quality Sake, Kobe Beef and also Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995.

  We arrived at Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum.

Hakutsuru Sake Brewery is located in the Nada district of Kobe.

Kobe has been long famous for Japan's top sake (rice wine).

It's because Nada district of Kobe has high quality rice, natural spring water and favorable cold winters, which are ideal elements for brewing sake.

Perfectly situated near to Kobe Port and Osaka facilitated physical distribution 

since olden times. Therefore, many sake breweries operate in the Nada district.

 

 Hakutsuru has exhibition rooms with life-sized mannequins

and equipment used to brew sake.

Here are some of the processes of brewing 2,000 years of Japanese traditional Sake...

Water and rice are the main ingredients for sake. 

The process starts with polishing different types of unpolished rice.

Let me learn some tips from these 'Toji' (master brewers).

Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum is an old two-story Sake kura.

 Strong worker transport down this giant bucket using pulley.

 

"Attention! Attention! People on the first floor kindly move away!"

 Last process is to make these sake barrels.

On Osaka Nite event with all the group members, they had Kagami-biraki ceremony.

They broke the lid of the sake barrel by a wooden mallet. Kagami refers to the lid of the sake barrel and biraki means “to open” so kagami-biraki literally means “opening the lid.”  Kagami symbolized harmony because the lid is in round shape. 

Then followed by pounding rice to make mochi. In the past, samurai households would at New Years make an offering to the gods of a stack of mochi to represent the kagami. The mochi were cut up into pieces to represent the biraki, or “opening,” and eaten on January 11.

Both types of Kagami-biraki - the breaking open of a barrel of sake at Shinto blessings and celebrations, and the cutting up of kagami-mochi - are a means of beseeching the gods to grant good health and fortune. (Source)

Perhaps there is no other alcoholic beverage other than sake 

that can be enjoyed from cold to hot ranging from 5°C to 55°C.

 Generally, warm sake is suited to cold and plain foods, and hot sake is
suited to hot pot (nabe) dishes and foods made with a lot of oil and fat.

That tips on how to enjoy sake at its best ended the tour, and visitors at the end of exhibit rooms is sake tasting room. They provide few types of sake for free tasting, so you can decide which types you want to purchase.

Plum Sake (not included this cutie bear).

The admission is free, but it's interesting to tour inside this old wooden Sake Kura 

with sake smells and straw. Not only life-size mannequins, but they also have

few short videos explaining some of the steps of brewing sake too.
