It's so intriguing to see a lot people were carrying brown orange paper bags everywhere in Jeonju! We guessed that particular shop was having big sale, but what's inside those bags?!
Without further delay, I stopped a Korean lady and asked her: "이고 어디에샀어요?" (where did you buy this?). She answered me in Korean, and she somehow realized that I didn't get what she said looking at my 'question marks' face. She's so kind to rushed to her boyfriend inside the shop. So cute to see her talk in super fast speed as if it's in emergency. She really wanted to help us... I heard that she told him she didn't know how to tell us in English as we're foreigner. Thanks to this kindhearted couple, we finally knew how to go to that shop!
Oh~ it's PNB Confectionery (풍년제과). Wait! I really need to search internet what kind of bakery are they selling with this crazy long queue?!
Didn't know why suddenly the amount of saliva in my mouth increased when I saw the pictures on Google's images! Choco Pie (초코파이)... for sure I'll love these sweet and yummy choco pies~!
Beautiful PNB branch at Hanok Village.
My hubby said it's long queue because it's after work hours, we should come back in the morning. I agreed to what he said, and didn't join the queue...
7:30pm - it's even more crowded!
10:15am - ... (do I need to put the caption?!)
The first thing we did after came out from hotel was to join the queue. We finally realised that we're so wrong... no matter what time, it's still the same long queue, as if they are all so free and no need to go to work or school!
After waited for about 10 minutes... one of the storekeepers came out informing that choco pies were sold out, and need to wait for about 30 minutes! Wah! luck was really not at our side... Sigh~~ sigh!!
We didn't have enough time as we need to join 11:00am English tour at Gyeonggijeon Shrine.
Yesterday we found out that there are three PNB stores in Jeonju.
It's about 400 meters from Hanok Village branch to PNB cafe.
Hubby arrived first and his smiley face signaled that he made a good decision :)
Bought 5 choco pies + 5 white pies + breads + crackers
Choco /White pie: 1,600 Won / piece or 16,000 Won / box
Why I only bought 10 pies?! Not even additional 2 for breakfast?! It's just because the store keeper said 1 box = 10 pieces. I guessed my brain not yet working at that time because I haven't had my breakfast yet.
Variety of breads hot from oven...
and cookies or crackers...
Only 2 minutes to spare for taking photos :P
Didn't go up to the cafe on second floor, because we'd to rush back
to hotel to put the pies in the fridge.
I checked the expiry date with the cashier. She told me 3 days from the production date printed on the packaging or 10 days if we refrigerated them.
Choco pie packaging with ingredients and date of production (2014-02-25).
When we came back to hotel at night, the box and paper bag were discarded. The cleaner was too efficient to throw everything that's empty. So, I didn't have a chance to take nice photos :(
Choco pie is filled with crunchy walnuts, strawberry jam and whipped cream,
then coated with chocolate on the corner (left a square shape in the middle).
I think this must be their best selling product all the time, with average 10,000 choco pies sold out on daily basis!
Tip (best way to eat): Choco Pies (best served chill) + milk / coffee
White pie (화이트파이/ 붓세)
Corn castella with walnuts, almonds, mocha cream and strawberry jam.
Cookies with seaweed flakes (풍년파래전병)
Crunchy and sweet... good for tea-time snack.
and preserving the taste for 3 generations.
Check out their website for store locations or order online.
We also saw similar confectionery store with similar name '풍년제과'
just that without 'PNB' infront of it.
They're also selling Choco pies, white pies...
Almost similar packing, similar box,
and same price 1,600 Won / piece or 16,000 Won / box.
These cookies labeling almost look the same too and same price!
They also have cafe corner inside the store.
The only different is this shop only has few customers.
Twins? No... they're competitors!
This is another restaurant that flooded with customers day and night...
Daurang Handmade Mandu (다우랑).
Outside Daurang Restaurant + PNB paper bags~!
Saw few people eating this U-Corn Ice cream.
wanna try but it's kinda weird & awkward holding that 'special U-shape'
Gosin Traditional tea house has warmth cozy interior...
Engraved with a Chinese character '茶' '古新 '
on a log that looks like Chinese chess pieces.

71-4 Gyodong Wansan-gu,
Jeonju, Jeonbuk, Korea
Sadly, we lacked of time in this Hanok town which has
no lack of delicious food to suit everyone palate!
no lack of delicious food to suit everyone palate!
Thanks to people in Jeonju for their love to eat and enjoy food, that resulted restaurants there have to prepare yummier dishes to satisfy their customers. Now, should I blame them for happily line themselves in long queues?!
I'll be back to explore this beautiful slow city and savour my taste buds. It's just easily to fall in love with this yesteryear world. I really wish to stay there forever, because I felt happier and rejuvenate in this Hanok Village~!
Alright, remember to include this slow city on your itinerary if you're visiting Korea~^^
