Joyful Day in Jeonju 1

Jeonju has much to offer than just Bibimbap. I love everything in this village especially the traditional Han-style vibe in this small city. It's a must visit destination in Korea which I always recommended my friends whenever they plan to go to Korea.

The first reason why I recommend it is because you don't even need to worry of transportation in this village, because you can just walk from one place to another place. It's so convenient that even someone like me who hate walking and no sense of direction can do it.

Secondly, if you're tired walking just stop and have drink and some snacks that available at every corners. Remember to pamper your stomach because the food here is incredibly yummy and have lots of selection ranging from traditional to unique fusion meal.
  Jeonju Nambu Market.

After checked out and leave our luggage at WannaBe Design Hotel (워너비호텔), we went to Nambu Traditional Market to have our breakfast.

Luckily this stall was open, because lots of them still closed when we're there.

Waiting for hot food to keep our bodies warmer.

Patjuk Red Bean Soup and Seafood Kalguksu.

I prefer sweet red bean soup which I had at 서울서둘째로잘하는집
in Seoul or 외할머니 솜씨 in Jeonju.

We only order these 2 dishes, because we wanted to taste others delicacies. They all seemed delicious, however we didn't have much time to join the queue.

Pungnammun Gate (풍남문) is jus a walking distance from Nambu Market.

Didn't rent Hanbok's veils (쓰개치마 =  sseugaechima) from Bettl Hanbok
therefore can only use my fur jacket as sseugaechima.

Japanese military sitting in front of Pungnammun.

Remembrance booth of the Sewol ferry incident (Day 593).

Fish Bread 페스츄리 에빠진 붕어빵.

Leisurely strolling around charming Jeonju village after breakfast and found this cute fish bread on the way to Gyeonggijeon

Fish Bread (붕어빵) - ₩2,700 / piece.

We bought 4 pieces of different flavours for ₩10,000. There's option for 6 pieces at ₩15,000 too.
This fish bread is bigger than normal fish bread sold at the street and the filling was generous too.

Candid photoshot of these two kiddos that always avoid taking photos.

Gyeonggijeon is a must visit historical site in Jeonju.

Please click this link if you want to read more about Gyeonggijeon Main Hall, and this link for Royal Portrait Museum which enshrined portrait of King Tae-jo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. You might also like to visit this link to know more about The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty which stored inside Jeonju Sago.

I purposely stopped in front of Doldam-gil (Stone Wall Walkway)
because it's perfect and matching background to snap photos in Hanbok.

 Ladies in colorful hanboks.

In just a merely one year, I can see the big difference in this Hanok village, where there are a lot of stores renting Hanbok. Therefore, about 30% of people in the street were swanning in their beautiful hanbok. I really love the atmosphere where I felt like the time was turned back to Joseon era or I was filming Korean drama where you can see pretty agassi or handsome yangban and hanok houses.

To be continued, please stay tuned...

King Yeongjo had a long life. He passed away at age 83 and reigned for 52 years. According to the guide, average age of the kings were about 49 years old. His secret to long life was eating light food with mountain ginseng.

[Jeonju Sago] - Joseon Wangjo Sillok (조선 왕조 실록)

Cheongyeonru Pavilion (청연루) - a must visit Tourist Attraction in Jeonju| by Meheartseoul
Jeonju Sago wooden building was specially designed and constructed with raised floor to avoid wet when raining and good ventilation. It's now housing copy of Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty). Before that, these Annals were stored in Seunguisa Temple located in Jeonju castle, then moved to the Jinnammu Pavilion in the rear garden of the temple's guest house.

Jeonju Sago (전주 사고).

This Jeonju Sago building which holds the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty appears in episode 10 of  “Love in the Moonlight.”, when Ra-on hurts her foot. The Crown Prince becomes jealous when seeing the other eunuchs assisting Ra-on here. He punished Ra-on with a kiss on her cheek as she didn't obey his order.

Busy Sagwan (사관inside Chunchugwan (춘추관).

The guide told us a story... King Sejong ever asked the historian to let him read his Father's Sillok. As at that time, King was not allowed to read or review them, they told King Sejong that if he did so, Sagwan will record it in his Sillok. At the end, King Sejong gave up after listened to that statement.

Haha... It's kinda funny! I think sagwan really did good job to keep records of the actual details! And I'm amazed by the durability and recycling process of hanji paper...

Evacuation and Repositories of Sillok.

The original Sillok are kept in the Gyujanggak Archives in Seoul National University, and they're available online for reading. These Sillok were written in classical Chinese even after King Sejong invented Hangul.

Therefore, I've to wait until they translated them to English or maybe watch more Saeguk dramas, which well-written story lines were based on cultural & historical references from Annals. Though, sometimes they added some fictional characters and situations in "Princess' Man" that made it more dramatic, romantic and spectacular to watch.

I'm currently watching Gunman in Joseon plotting in Emperor Gojong's reign. However, the Annals of Last Two Emperors (King Gojong and King Sunjong) not included in Joseon Wangjo Sillok because they're written during the Japanese occupation in Korea, which the compilation might have been influenced by Japanese as well as the falsification of historical events.

I just came back from Korea for my Birthday trip with my family in Sep 2013. Yap, this is my 3rd trip in Korea with my hubby. Initially, thought to go with my friends or my sisters, but they're not available. My hubby quite worried if I travel alone, because the chance for me to get lost is about 80%. Therefore, he bought air ticket to accompany me (hhmmm... I think it's an excuse! He likes Korea too!)

It's still winter (Dec - Mid Mar) in Korea that can be bitterly cold, especially for us that so used to tropical climate. I really wish to see snow, but really worry to see the minus degree on weather forecast. I asked my Korean friend whether I can survive the cold in Korea.  He commented: "You are cold-vulnerable South East Asian. You wont make it at all. Give it up". ㅋㅋ

Haiz! Not even encouragement~! But, I didn't give up! And these photos are the proofs that we survived the cold weather, and had pretty much fun and enjoy ourselves in Korea ^^

10 cold but cool days of fun but furry covered from head to toes! :P

Day 6 - Day 10
Jeonju, Muju, Suwon, Seoul

Rough itinerary was Korail railroad trip (O-train, V-train and S-train), cultural tours to other provinces that I've not visited yet. And a must skiing experience since it's winter. Seems quite straight forward, but it's actually quite tricky and headache as I need to check on the transportations (Korail, Kobus, Easy Ticket) with time schedules.

I emailed to KTO to enquire on transportation information that I couldn't find such as from Gyeongju to Masan, and Gwangju to Jeonju. They replied me with the Naver Map link (in Korean) with Departure Time, Arrival Time, Bus Type and Ticket Fare.

as I couldn't find transportation from one point to the other point.

Gyeongju to Jeonju Bus Information by Naver Map

From there, I tried to explore on how to check on other destinations by bus: Yeongju to Busan and Muju to Seoul. It's really very useful with accurate information on bus timetable, bus terminal address and website.

Korea Travel Blog | www.meheartseoul.blogspot.com
Final Itinerary

Well, not too much changes for Final Itinerary as I only knew how to use Naver Map 2 days before my departure date after I received replied email from KTO. There are actually a lot of Intercity Bus (시외)  and Express Bus (고속) connecting every cities.

For accommodations, I booked through Agoda for hotels in Seoul & Busan. And the rest, I reserved online through their websites, but only Muju Kookmin Hotel confirmed my booking. The rest didn't reply on the confirmation though I emailed and tried to message them through Kakao Talk. I understand that you need to pay deposit to secure the booking and they didn't accept credit card. So, it's too troublesome to transfer money to their bank account and I really don't want to bother my Korean friends as they're so busy.

From their booking system, you can actually see which rooms were already booked. Mostly just half full, so I decided to just go there directly, if the room we wanted was taken, we can just change to other room. For the worst case, we'll  just look for motel...

This time round, I reserved WiBro rental from KT Roaming. This Wifi router can support up to 7 devices for wifi. It's important, as for the first day, my hubby will be arrived in Seoul at night only. So, I need to let him know the hotel room number and most importantly I can stay connected in case I lost my way in Seoul :P

I'll be posting the places that we visited in Seoul based on the actual itinerary and update the link here:
