As Grandfather statues (Dol hareubang) is the symbol of Jeju... you can easily find them all around the island. They are considered to be gods offering both protection and fertility and were placed outside of gates for protection against demons. Now let's go to find pretty Grandmother Rock (Halmangbawi)!
6. Oedolgae Rock (외돌개) / Grandmother Rock
Oedolgae was named for its isolated location on the sea. The 20 meters stone pillar "Oeodolgae" and 10 meters in circumference standing at the beautiful beach of Samebong Peak and located 2 km from the west of Seogwipo. It was formed by volcanic activity at the same time as Jeju Island 1.5 million years ago.
It is also called Grandmother rock (Halmangbawi).
The legend has it that an old woman waited for her husband to return from a fishing trip. When he didn't come back, she became a rock. On the tip of the rock, some pine trees and grasses grow, resembling human hair. It will give you the impression that the old woman forehead, sorrowful eyes and nose can be faintly seen on the left side of the rock. The open mouth will make you feel like the old woman is calling for her husband ㅠㅠ
There is a rock right under the Oedolgae that looks like it is floating.
It is said that the rock is her husband body before she become a stone pillar. Spreading like a folding screen, the oddly-shaped Fairy Rock (Seonnyubawi) cliff surrounds the rock as if it is trying to embrace the stone couple.
Oedolgae Rock is surrounded by beautiful islands such as
Bum Island, Sae Island and Seonnyu (fairy) Rock.
What a spectacular view!!!
filming location of TV drama series, 'Jewel in The Palace'
In episodes 30 and 31, Jang-geum stands alone
on a precipice looking out to the sea in firm resolution.
Pictorialization - Charcoal and Color pencil
There's an almost-hidden stairway will lead you down to a bed of volcanic rock, a natural pool, and a prime location for cliff jumping and snorkelling. It's popular during summer months, the swimming hole is populated with locals and tourists seeking a cooling dip and soak in the summer heat.
Goodbye kiss from Dolphin... muuaacchh!
7. LoveLand (제주러브랜드)
Mr Park told us that we can only go to Loveland on our way back to Jeju City. This time, he didn't join us in... he just politely said that he'll wait for us outside and asked us to enjoy ourselves ㅎㅎㅎ
Jeju Love Land is a theme sculpture park based on sensuality and eroticism.
Twenty artists, mainly graduates of top art school Hongik University, helped
open it in November 2004. It was the first such museum in Korea at that time.
The park as a whole looks like a piece of land
art. This park is focused on a theme of sex and featuring 140 sculptures (40 within the gallery and 100 outside) representing humans in various sexual positions.
It's an attractive place, where love oriented art and eroticism meet
in cool, fun, humorous styles.
Omo!!! Just found out that he cheated me with other gals and even guy! (Proof)
Just Google for more pictures here
미... 미안해~... did I molest the statue?!
Love is all around~
Why you should visit there?
Because... it's fun and even the statues are enjoying themselves!!! ;P
8. E-Mart Jeju (이마트 제주점)
We asked Mr Park to drive us here to nearby shopping mall or eatery place instead of hotel. He's so thoughtful and told us that he'll picked us after our dinner. We told him that it's fine for us to go back ourselves as we might want to go shopping after dinner. And it'll be inconvenience for him to come back if he's not around that area.
Our scrumptious dinner @ E-mart food court
(Jajangmyeon + fried Rice + Sweet & Sour Chicken, Fish Fillets, Salad & Soups)
That's end of our awesome taxi tour experience with Mr Park. Really thanks him for showing us beautiful Jeju Island. Annyeong~~~ hope to see you again next time!
