Just Jeju (Oedolgae Rock, LoveLand, E-Mart Jeju)

Recommended Tourist Attractions by Taxi Tour in Jeju Island III | by Meheartseoul
As Grandfather statues (Dol hareubang) is the symbol of Jeju... you can easily find them all around the island. They are considered to be gods offering both protection and fertility and were placed outside of gates for protection against demons. Now let's go to  find pretty Grandmother Rock (Halmangbawi)!

6. Oedolgae Rock (외돌개) / Grandmother Rock
Oedolgae was named for its isolated location on the sea. The 20 meters stone pillar "Oeodolgae" and 10 meters in circumference standing at the beautiful beach of Samebong Peak and located 2 km from the west of Seogwipo. It was formed by volcanic activity at the same time as Jeju Island 1.5 million years ago.

It is also called Grandmother rock (Halmangbawi).

The legend has it that an old woman waited for her husband to return from a fishing trip. When he didn't come back, she became a rock. On the tip of the rock, some pine trees and grasses grow, resembling human hair. It will give you the impression that the old woman forehead, sorrowful eyes and nose can be faintly seen on the left side of the rock. The open mouth will make you feel like the old woman is calling for her husband ㅠㅠ

There is a rock right under the Oedolgae that looks like it is floating.

It is said that the rock is her husband body before she become a stone pillar. Spreading like a folding screen, the oddly-shaped Fairy Rock (Seonnyubawi) cliff surrounds the rock as if it is trying to embrace the stone couple.

There's an almost-hidden stairway will lead you down to a bed of volcanic rock, a natural pool, and a prime location for cliff jumping and snorkelling. It's popular during summer months, the swimming hole is populated with locals and tourists seeking a cooling dip and soak in the summer heat.

7. LoveLand (제주러브랜드)
Mr Park told us that we can only go to Loveland on our way back to Jeju City. This time, he didn't join us in... he just politely said that he'll wait for us outside and asked us to enjoy ourselves ㅎㅎㅎ

Jeju Love Land is a theme sculpture park based on sensuality and eroticism. Twenty artists, mainly graduates of top art school Hongik University, helped open it in November 2004. It was the first such museum in Korea at that time.

The park as a whole looks like a piece of land art. This park is focused on a theme of sex and featuring 140 sculptures (40 within the gallery and 100 outside) representing humans in various sexual positions.

Why you should visit there?
Because... it's fun and even the statues are enjoying themselves!!! ;P

8. E-Mart Jeju (이마트 제주점)
We asked Mr Park to drive us here to nearby shopping mall or eatery place instead of hotel. He's so thoughtful and told us that he'll picked us after our dinner. We told him that it's fine for us to go back ourselves as we might want to go shopping after dinner. And it'll be inconvenience for him to come back if he's not around that area.

Just Jeju (O'Sulloc Green Tea Museum, Jusangjeolli Cliffs)

Recommended Tourist Attractions by Taxi Tour in Jeju Island IV | by Meheartseoul
Green Green Green~!!!
We're so lucky to have Mr Park as our tour guide. He's so kind and honest! Why I said so?
If you're in Indonesia... even you don't know the place that you want to go, please just pretend that you know it to avoid unpleasant experience... My friend was almost missed her flight as the taxi driver made a big round, which actually from our hotel in Kuta Bali to airport is less than 20 minutes. We kept questioning the driver and told him that we're late for flight.

Another incident was in Thailand... we saw on the tourist map that there's nearby shopping centre. It's unbearable hot, so we decided to take taxi... but we regretted it much. Not only you got heart attack to see the taxi fare, but also wasted your precious time... as we might reached that mall faster if we walked there.

Mr Park brought us to all the places that listed on our itinerary including those around Seogwipo area. He can actually just follow our itinerary and have more time to rest while we visiting that place of interest... 정말 고마워요 ^^

4. O'Sulloc Green Tea Museum

It was not in our itinerary, but grateful that Mr Park brought us here, which I enjoyed so much! First time visit tea plantation. By the way, I'm a tea lover (green tea, white tea, oolong tea, herbal tea, fruit tea, tonic tea,...), but I don't drink coffee :P

A Big cup of O'Sulloc Green Tea, anyone?

The “o” in “o’sulloc”, means to appreciate and enjoy, and it also stands for the origin of sulloc, only sulloc, and of sulloc tea. In September 2001, Amore Pacific opened OSULLOC Tea Museum, the largest tea museum in Korea, in Jeju-do. (source: Visit Korea)

Wohoo~~~ after a cup of tea and snack, we're ready for next destination... back to Seogwipo city!

Just Jeju (Yeongduam Rock, Geumneung Beach, Hyeopjae Beach)

Recommended Tourist Attractions by Taxi Tour in Jeju Island | by Meheartseoul
Uh oh! I jumbled the places I visited in Jeju. Pardon me for my poor memory added with no sense of direction ㅠㅠ
Just referred back to my photo album, our first destination was Yongduam Rock before Hallim Park.

Jeju Map - places we visited in numerical order

1. Yongduam Rock Dragon Head Rock (용두암)

The 10m high and 30m long volcanic rock formation perched along the ocean side is said to resemble a dragon’s head.

There are several legends of how it came to be. One legend has it that a dragon stealing precious jade from Mt. Halla was shot down by an arrow from the mountain deity. When he fell down on Yongduam, his body immediately sank into the ocean and his head rapidly froze looking at the sky. Another legend has it that a white horse, who dreamed of being a dragon and ascending to the sky, came to be caught by a soldier and froze into the rock.

3. Hyeopjae Beach (협재해수욕장)

Hyeopjae Beach is located on the west side of Hanrim-eup, and is part of Hanrim Park. The beautiful white color of the sand comes from the large amounts of crushed seashells that have been mixed in with the sand. The long seashore stretches for 9 km and has cobalt colored seawater and evergreen forests scattered around the vicinity, making the scenery very beautiful. (Source: Visit Korea)

Just Jeju (Hallim Park, Hyeopjae Beach, Biyangdo Island, Black Pork BBQ)

Recommended Tourist Attractions and Taxi Tour in Jeju Island II | by Meheartseoul
Yohoo!!! It's on Sunday morning when we reached Jeju Island after spending 1 night in Udo Island. We boarded the first ferry from Cheonjinhang Harbor to Seongsan Harbor, Jeju.

I purposely arranged our itinerary to Jeju - Udo - Jeju - Busan to make sure we have enough time to catch the flight to Busan on Monday.

Short video on our trip in Udo Island
From Seongsan Harbor, we took a bus back to Jeju city and checked-in to Jeju Marina Tourist Hotel. We asked the receptionist to book a taxi for exploring Jeju city, as we didn't book any land package.
We called taxi rental agency from the hotel.  She said Sunday mostly all taxis were booked especially for English and Chinsese speaking driver. She asked us to call back in half and hour time, as I said it's fine to have Korean speaking driver.
Hotel manager asked us to go to Yeha to join the land tour. We walked to the office, which not to far from the hotel, but too bad it was closed :(
Then, we found public phone and called the taxi rental agency again. But, luck was not on our side! Even Korean speaking taxi driver also not available. How?!! It's not possible to walk to the places that I planned to visit! Hiks hiks ㅠㅠ
Phew~!!! We saw a taxi when we were crossing road on the way back to hotel. I just tried my luck to ask the driver whether he can drive us to one of the nearby attraction. To my surprise, he offered to take us around the Jeju for 9 hours. I don't remember how much he charged, but it's definitely cheaper than the rate from the taxi rental agency and extra 1 hour too. Wow~~~ Perfect!!!  Super duper happy that I almost cried!

Mr Park, our 기사 님 (kisanim = taxi driver), tour guide and photographer

Quickly hopped in the taxi, and he asked where we want to visit. I showed him places for interests in Jeju City. We told him that we visited some places in Seogwipo City. He showed us the map and told us that he can drive us to Seogwipo City too, although we said it's alright as we afraid that it's too far and troublesome for him. Anyway, we were fine with his recommendation as we can go to more places that didn't listed on our itinerary.

Let's start our journey in Jeju:
First stop... Hallim Park
Hallim Park, almost 100 thousand square meters, has a variety of gardens that can be enjoyed in any season. The most famous tourist sites in Hallim Park are:

~ Hyeopjaegul and Ssangyonggul Caves, the only two-dimensional caves in the world.

After walked for almost 2 hours we were really hungry. We told Mr Park that we wanted to eat Black Pork BBQ, but he didn't know about it. He called his friend to check where to find the restaurant or sikdang that sell black pork BBQ. Since he has never eaten it before as he just moved to Jeju from Seoul. So, we asked him to join us for lunch :)
