Bettl Hanbok (베틀한복)

Bettl Hanbok 베틀한복 - Travel Back in Time | by Meheartseoul
Hanbok~ Hanbok ya... here I come! As you know, I really love Hanbok, so I'd planned to travel around Korea in Hanbok! Seriously? Yeah, although sounded a bit crazy, but I just couldn't resist the charm of this beautiful Korean traditional dress. So much in love with it! Back in Joseon era, Hanbok was everyday wear of Korean people. So, there's no reason to stop me for doing so, right?!

Bettl Hanbok (베틀한복).

The problem was it's hard to find a shop that allowed me to rent for so long, mostly for 1 day or maximum 3 days. Though 3 days sounded better than 1 day, but we're traveling around and not stationed in Seoul, so unable to return it on the third day.

Frankly speaking, I didn't put much hope when I left a message on Bettl Hanbok's Instagram because
some of the Hanbok shops not even replying my emails. Rental fee from wedding photo studio was too expensive beyond my budget.

Glad to find out that Bettl Hanbok do renting out their branded Hanbok. They also have Hanbok designers to tailor-made Hanbok for special occasions such as wedding, pre-wedding photoshoot, Chuseok or other anniversaries.

I got hard time to choose as they have a lot of beautiful hanbok.

Bettl Hanbok's staff, Sim Ju Yeon (심주연) was very accommodating. She assisted me to select the Hanbok from their instagram and website. However, some of the designs I like were not for renting. Actually the baby blue jeogori and midnight blue chima material seems quite unique and simple which made it outstanding. However Ms Sim suggested to select other as the material was too thin and not suitable to wear in cold winter.

We finally finalized the Hanbok 4 days before the collection date. She asked for my height and weight so that they could alter to fit me.

Finally decided to get purple jeogori (jacket) to combine with the
greenish yellow chima (skirt). Aren't they perfect combination?

Hanbok's veils (쓰개치마 =  sseugaechima).
(The above Hanbok photos source: Bettl Hanbok).

Actually I wanted to rent 쓰개치마  to cover my head and conceal some part of my face because nobody will help me to do make-up and hair-do. I really don't know how to do proper make-up. Maybe I could used it as a jacket or additional layer on top of my hanbok to make myself warmer in winter days. But because the rental fee was half the price of renting the whole Hanbok set, so at the end I didn't rent it.

One of the staff guided us to this room with full of
rolls of colorful fabrics and ready-made Hanbok.

Wow!!! For your information, I'm not the person who like to do fitting when buying clothes. Therefore, I normally shop online. But, I've the urge to try all the hanbok when I entered that room!!!

Actually, we didn't need to come to this room as we only need to collect my selected Hanbok. But, because I told the staff that I wanted to rent Hanbok, she brought us there to select the Hanbok.

I showed her that I'd selected the Hanbok and my conversation on Kakao Talk  that I'd arranged to collect it from Ms Sim on that day. Then she asked us to wait and she went out to look for Ms Sim. Ah... my mistake as I said I wanted to rent instead of to collect Hanbok. Sorry for not conversed it clearly. Anyway, it's nice to see so many Hanbok although just for few minutes.

Hanbok waiting to be collected on that day.

Experience Traditional Korean costume is one of the popular things to do for tourists when they are visiting Korea. I can say it's a trend as you can see locals and tourists strolling around the palaces and Hanok Villages in Hanbok.

Complete set of Hanbok + inner petticoat (속차마) + tutu skirt + chingnon hair wig.

Ms Sim greeted us when she entered the room, she asked us to follow her to get the Hanbok. She showed me the Hanbok inside the cloth protective bag. She went in to another room and came out with petticoat and additional balloonist inner tutu skirt to add volume to the skirt (차마).

Not only that, she's so nice to showed me some of hair accessories that suitable for me. Actually she'd told me that she can lend me 배씨댕기 and 아얌 for free when I decided not to rent sseugaechima. But 배씨댕기 is more suitable for young girl (agassi). Thought, she said that 아얌 is for all age, but I think for ajumma like me it's better to have chingnon hair wig with binyeo (비녀).

Bettl Hanbok (베틀한복) studio | www.meheartseoul.blogspot.sg
She asked me to check the Hanbok to confirm it's the set I chose.
Then I asked her to teach me how to tie the ribbon (goreum) on the Hanbok.

Wanna change into this Hanbok immediately...

But it's not suitable for that day as we'd an appointment at Gangnam Severence Hospital later, and after that going to Kidzania. Actually, we're a bit late for appointment, therefore we quickly settled the payment and took the taxi there.

Thank you Ms Sim for your patience and excellent service. Million thanks for sponsoring me with special discount  which I could fulfilled my wish to travel in Hanbok. I love you so much~!^^

[Singapore] - Ice Lab (아이스랩)

It was first Saturday of January, we went to Orchard as I wanted to have a feel on how the stretch of streets at Orchard area being closed on Pedestrian night.

Kinda love this idea with mini Chingay. However, there will not be
another Car-Free night after February.

In Korea, they also adopting 'eco-mobility’ movement.  Busy shopping zones such as in Sinchon and Jeonju JIFF Street allowing people to enjoy space-freedom. Totally awesome and fun atmosphere with so many street performances.

In Jeonju Hanok Village, some major streets along tourist attractions
from Gyeonggijeon to Omokdae Pavilion were closed to traffic
on every Saturday and Public Holiday.

Ok, back to Orchard Road...

It's quite intriguing to see this shop 'Ice Lab' written in
Hangul ('아이스랩') at Orchard Shopping Centre.

From the name, it's something related to ice... bingsu?
But from the exterior it looked like cosmetic shop. Couldn't see inside
clearly as we were standing diagonally opposite the store.

Wow!!! Bingsu showering on the Christmas tree!

While hubby ordering, I sat there and watched congratulation video
on the first floor since not a lot of people there when we arrived.

You know what, it's quite weird as most of the time after we went inside the shop suddenly the crowd started to come in~! I don't know why...

Then we decided to sit on the second floor.

 Ice Lab Menu.

 Some of Bingsu series...

Dessert, Bread and Drink.

Korean Snack Special.

Each machine for each type of bingsu.

Collection Counter.

They have 2 sizes for bingsu : Small and Large.
Large is additional $4.00 from small size.

Actually we wanted to have brownie bingsu but no more...

Therefore, we ordered Yogurt Bingsu (L) - $21.20
and Mango Bingsu (S) - $19.30.

Sad to say that it's quite disappointing...

Couldn't tell whether it's using milk ice shaved or just ice, because it's too plain and the only sweetness was mango syrup. Even my mango maniac daughter  prefer to her least favorite yogurt bingsu as the bingsu was milkier.

Overall, it's not worth the price for either small or big bowl!
This was the first time I saw miserable toppings that not even covered the whole bowl. It's so disappointing to pay a whooping $20 for a bowl which 90% filled with not so fluffy and not milky taste ice-shaved. It seemed promising when watching the video and nice spacious cafe with cool ambience. I recommended Nunsongyee (눈송이) and O'ma Spoon as they're yummier and very generous for the toppings.

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe

Few years ago, Suntec City was one of the mall that we visited at least once a month. That's when Carrefour still there. Then after it's closed and Suntec was on major renovation, then we hardly go there anymore.

Marina Square | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.com
Marina Square also undergone revamp with new gourmet-dining
zone on forth floor and an additional retail wing.

Recently we went there for buffet lunch at Kuishinbo to celebrate my hubby's birthday in January. We had quick dinner at Long John Silver's at Marina Square before going to Hong Bao River during Chinese New Year.

while waiting for my Korean BBQ Pork from the stall.

After that, we're going to 'I Light Marina Bay' Light Art Festival.

 Hohoho... see what I found?!

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe right at the escalator before the food court. I didn't know that they have a branch here.

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
Introduced and treated my friend cold Bingsu after sweating having
Korean BBQ Buffet at K.Cook in the afternoon.

Let me check with my friends for the photos of Strawberry bingsu and green tea bingsu because my HP was flat when waiting for our bingsu to be served.

Cafe Bene Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.com
They all hooked on sweet bingsu, it's like how I fell in love with it.

My Korean friend brought us to Cafe Bene and introduced bingsu on my first visit to Busan in 2012. My hubby and I were addicted to it. The above photo was in Chuncheon Myeongdong 3 days later after we had our first bingsu. :P

Surprised to see that the store was empty.

Only after we finished our meal, there was a  family having their bigsu there. Actually not intended to have bingsu that day because we'd bought 2 cups of Gong Cha Buble Tea.

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
But I couldn't resist the sweet bingsu especially
it's the bingsu that I craved for so long.

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.com
313@Somerset branch was always crowded. I hate to queue and
have to rush to finish my food when people waiting for a table.

 O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
These seats were waiting for me~!^^

My son and I just walked-in to order first while waiting for my daughter and hubby to finish their meals.

Although everything looks so tempting, but my bias always go to
mango or something with Oreo and chocolaty taste.

Ice Lab Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
But about 2 months ago, we just had Mango and Yogurt Bingsu at Ice Lab...

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.com
They have 2 types of Bingsu:
Snow flake and Premium Snow Flake Bingsu.

 O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
We ordered Premium Choco Brownie Bingsu
(초코브라우니빙수) - SGD18.90.

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.com
Irresistible snowy milk flakes topped with 3 bite-size of American Brownie, Oreo crumble,
sliced Banana, a scoop of Chocolate ice cream and sprinkled with Almond!

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
You can pour condensed milk to add the sweetness.

 O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.com
This bowl is good for sharing for 2 person. You can
get Petit Bingsu for smaller portion.

Who said you can't have the whole bowl for yourself? I can finish it by myself, but considering the price... I could have 2 plates of Korean BBQ pork and drinks. I'll have it more often if it's cheaper! ;P

O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe | www.meheartseoul.blogspt.sg
Milky ice shaved looks like shredded coconut,
just that it's very soft and melted as soon as it touch your mouth.

When we're eating, we found that half of the bowl of milky flakes melted. It's not watery, but instead turned to ice cream consistency. However, I prefer to shaved texture, though my son has no preferences as he said both still yummy. Maybe next time need to finish it faster, and try to scoop it very gently.

Actually some Korean Korean Buffet Restaurant (Todai, Nature Kitchen and Ashley Queens) in Korea have bingsu corner for desserts. However, they're using normal ice and their machine not producing those fine snowy shaved fresh milk. Is there any Korean Dessert Buffet where I can have  bingsu and satisfy my sweet tooth?
